Our Projects
Friends of Kings Park gets involved in many projects to improve Kings Park. Some of these are described below. We have more projects on the go than perhaps we should (and more in the planning stage!), so we need more members and volunteers.
Peace of Mind Garden
The Peace of Mind Garden is one of the current areas of focus for Friends of Kings Park. As Stirling Council is unable to maintain the garden and its plants, Friends of Kings Park is endeavouring to keep the garden looking its best. Recently our team of volunteers has made a concerted effort to improve the garden by removing many overgrown shrubs, re-planting several areas including the former raised bed, which had to be demolished by the council due to its poor state of repair.

We have been busy for over a year now and we are very pleased with the results. The photos below were taken in May 2024 on a lovely sunny day.
Handkerchief Tree
As part of the Queen's Green Canopy, celebrating the platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, pupils from Stirling High School in collaboration with Friends of King's Park planted a Handkerchief Tree in the park.
Below is an image of what the tree will look like (hopefully! when it flowers
Community Orchard
Friends of Kings Park were actively involved in planning and design of the Community Orchard. This is an ongoing project as we work to protect the trees from damage by deer and rabbits, who like to nibble the bark!
Recently we had our new Orchard Panel installed. This panel is bright and informative, explaning the need to attract bees and other pollinators to help the trees produce apples. Thanks to Stirling Council Community Fund for a grant and to Arken Creative and APB Displays for design and construction, respectively.

We have also added a patch of wild flowers to encourage bees and other pollinators to the site.
We would like to thank Alan and Caroline Booth from the Laigh Hils Community Orchard for their advice and help (and the labels!) and the Community Payback Scheme for their hard work.

The complete story of our orchard together is here; a press cutting and a detailed plan of the orchard showing the species is here.
Childrens playground
The children's playground includes equipment designed to be used by children of all abilities. This equipment, made by Inclusive Play Ltd, was funded in part by Friends of Kings Park.
