Friends of Kings Park Stirling

We are a small charity that aims to promote and improve Stirling's Kings Park. We work with the local community to promote the use of the park and to improve its facilities. We meet regularly in the park to undertake various projects that we hope make the park an even better place to visit. We are always looking for new members so please read on and, if you wish, get involved!

Tom Wilson Memorial Tree

A Sargent's Cherry Blossom Flowering tree was planted in memory of Tom Wilson last week with the assistance of the Stirling Council Land Services team. Tom was a founding member of the Friends of Kings Park, who passed away last year.

The ceremony was attended by Dorothy, Tom's widow who donated the tree, and members of the Friends Group.

New Tree for the Orchard

Did you know that wassailing is an old tradition of honouring the apple trees in an orchard?

Some of our volunteers performed a small wassailing ceremony at the end of January when planting a new Stirling Castle heritage apple tree.  It was purchased using part of the generous donations received in memory of our late member, Sue Hunter.

The tree replaces one of the earlier trees which had to be felled last year due to disease.  We hope that our "toast to the tree" will help it grow to be a fine productive member of the community orchard.
